As the gearbox wasn't quite in the right rotational alignment, I slung the crane sling round the transfer box to pull it into alignment. The Land Rover bell housing has a useful hole in the top which means that you can put a screwdriver down and align the input shaft splines. This one went in first time without any problems.

More wirebrushing today taking the paint off engine ancillaries. Here's progress on the right side. I haven't bolted the engine down yet as I don't have a 15mm spanner for the engine mountings which are metric. I ordered the right ones from the parts book but got metric ones. Once they're tight I can bolt down everything else.

Manifolds in place. I think I should paint the exhaust manifold. The new stainless steel exhaust needs to be adjusted carefully so it doesn't knock on anything.

News from Andy who is looking at the tub. Here's the tub after the stripping process. You can see that it is in pretty good condition apart from the areas that have been next to steel. A new floor will be going in as you can see where the rot coincides with the floor cross members (steel).

Andy has removed the front section which has a lot of rot. This will be going to a local coach builder so that a replacement can be made.

Not the best of photos but you can see how bad the rot is.

The last few days have seen a number of odd jobs including painting the brake drums. Tonight I thought I'd get the wheels back on. Starting to look like a vehicle again.

Lots of minor work over the last few days. Yesterday I was back at Triple S in Bingley to collect some painted parts including the fan that you can see in the photo. The oil cooler has had some high temperature paint applied although I'm not sure I need it. One of the fuel tanks is getting painted using spray cans - the other is scrap as it has internal corrosion.

I've hit a bit of a problem with the gearbox as I can't get high ratio - it's stuck in 4WD. The propshafts are fitted but I've disconnected them at the gearbox in order to understand the problem. Bit of a pain when you have to go backwards

The tub should be ready soon. As some of the corrosion was around the seat belts, the MoT states that all repairs must be as original so the new plates have had to be welded in.

Gearbox problem solved with many thanks to Nick from David Beaumont Gearboxes. Nick suggested that I'd fitted the transfer gear lever bracket on the wrong side of the bellhousing lug and he was absolutely right. The bracket goes on the front of the lug as shown in the photo. It's best if the bolt faces forward as well to give the maximum amount of room for the lever to work. All working nicely now.

As I connected the propshafts with the wheels off the ground I noticed that the front wheel bearings must have settled a bit and there was far too much play. So the driving members had to come off for adjustment.

I had a bit of a play with oil cooler brackets but this is going to need some careful work to get them situated in the right place. I'm not sure that the right hand one is the correct one.

Picked up the tub today. The new front panel has been welded in. I spent the afternoon cutting out the old floor. Unfortunately the spot welding holding the front floor panel support bracket onto the new panel wasn't up to the strain.

Here's the tub ready to start rebuilding.
