Lightweight door seals are interesting. I've used No8 self tapping screws to hold them in place. You don't need clevis pins for the door retaining arms as they are welded into the end of the rod (as I found out). Craddocks have done a good one with the tailgate chains. Both are reportedly for the lower tailgate but one has 9 links and the other has 10. I need to think how to sort that one out. |

I put some petrol in the left hand tank and filled the cooling system. I thought I'd better try to get some fuel through before attempting a start. After lots of levering on the fuel pump, fuel wasn't getting through. As an experiment I disconnected the left hand fuel tank and found that I could blow into the pipe to the fuel tap. Feeling round the tap revealed a blow, indicating that there was an air leak from the tap. That probably explains why the left tank hadn't been used for some time. I'll probably try the right hand tank tonight - fuel taps aren't cheap! Having done a bit of research, the first thing is to soak the fuel tap in petrol for 24 hours - the cork washer dries out. Second you can buy new cork washers. |

28 September
Well there's been a big gap in the rebuild. This summer it was time to knock down the old shed and build something better (see separate section). By the end of September, the shed was getting close to completion so back to the lightweight. I had some fun and games getting the clutch bled that involved replacing the brand new, cheap master cylinder I'd bought for it. On the first trial run round the field, the steering was catching on something. The new track rod end was catching the bottom of the battery carrier so some surgery was required. Tonight I've had a go at correcting a lean by loading up the body with some blocks with the spring bolts loose. Then tighten them all up while it's level. We'll see if the lean comes back. |
