Almost finished. As you can see, the brake cylinder leaks slightly. I have since attempted a repair with new reservoir and seals to no effect. |

Ready for the last body parts to be fitted. Now we get to the "interesting" bit. On the first trial run, it was obvious that the rebuild had made no difference whatsoever! To me, the internet is an amazing resource. OK 75% of it might be pure drivel but gems can be found if you persist. I eventually stumbled on Nick's Land Rover Site. A mine of useful information. He described a problem with the modern engine mounts that are supplied for Series 3 Land Rovers. "It seems that most pattern and seemingly some genuine mountings are made of incorrect specification rubber." Nick's site pointed me at Glencoyne Engineering who will supply 200Tdi spec engine mounts that can be modified to fit. Glencoyne supply a diagram showing how the mounts can be modified to fit a Series 3 installation. The mod involves grinding off a small amount of the metal discs of the engine mount to fit the LH and RH installation. It was a lot harder to replace the engine mountings with everything in place but after a lot of swearing, the job was done. Now the lightweight is completely transformed. No rattles or rumbles. |
