Glue application is finished. You can see that the track is well saturated. I don't worry if it all looks white with pools of glue. It all vanishes in the end.
I usually leave it for a couple of days before going anywhere near it.
The buffer stops are nice and are from Lanarkshire models |

As a break for ballasting, this area around the terminus station needs to be boxed in. The central section needs to be accessible for track cleaning.
I'm thinking of making this into the parcels handling area of the station. |

There seems to be 2 main installation systems for the prototype turntable. One is where the sleepers and the rails are above the surrounding surface, the other is where the rails are flush with the surrounding surface. Most people seem to go with the former with the Peco turntable and they end up with the ugly plastic rim of the turntable showing. I decided to go for the latter hoping to retain the facility of the ADM turntable in being able to lower the turntable from below, should maintenance be required. I also wanted to model the small 'bars' around the turntable so the crew could have some foot purchase should they have to push the loco round by hand. I cut a large number of small blocks with a rebate on the lower side facing the turntable. You can see the gap. The idea is that this gap will be covered by brickpaper. The bars are 0.3mm plastic strip. |

Meanwhile, progress has been made on the backscene. There's a little bit of a domestic dispute here as I reckon it's a bit too 'peaky' for West Yorkshire. I've painted the ground with a green emulsion paint that, hopefully, looks close to the static grass colour. This should be a base for the texture that will go on it. |

A while ago, I bought a Timber Tracks engine shed. It's a very satisfying kit to build as it turns out to be quite solid. I did have a bit of problem with the instructions in that they told me to fix the floor to the shed. I didn't like that as I could see no easy to fix and maintain the track once the shed was assembled. So I've kept them separate and have added an intermediate pair of I section beams that purports to support the centre of the roof. Although the shed is supposed to be GWR based, I've added stone sheets and hope that, once painted, it will look more Northern! |

The roof is pre cut paper sheets which I think gives a reasonable thickness. You can see that one of the vent sections was missing from the pack so I substituted a piece of plastic card. I'm not bothered as once it's black and grotty, I doubt if anyone will notice the difference. I'm still thinking about what to about the clerestory roofs. They wouldn't have used slate here as it would be too heavy so I think a felt roof would be best. |

Although I want the signalling to primarily utilise semaphores, I know my limits! The gantry is from Traintronics (unfortunately no longer available) and I had to buy 2 in order to span the tracks. A ladder is still required and I need to do something about the cable. The signals are 3 aspect and are electronically interlocked with the Up Main starter and the points. My Britannia "Earl Haig" waits for the road. I like the atmosphere but a bit more grime and grot needs to go in. At the moment, the walls only have been primed. |

January 2019
A lot of the winter has been spent in cutting Plasticard and strip wood for the tops of the walls. This went on for a long time! |

It's been bothering me that the yard hasn't got any form of pedestrian access. The shunters are going to need some form of offices as well so I'm on the look out for a suitable building to use as the basis for a model. I've botched an Airfix footbridge kit so that the staff get get access from the street. I need to source some form of gate. |

I had a bit of a disaster with the turntable. I was trying to fit brick paper and used glue that was too thick. Consequently, the turntable bridge started to foul the brick paper. In an attempt to remove it, I accidentally had the heat gun turned up too high and managed to distort the well. Alastair from ADM Turntables kindly repaired it with a new well. As the turntable was out, I've fixed the handrails. The Peco handrails are far too clumsy so I used Slaters stanchions with fine nickel silver wire. |
