And after cleaning the dust off on the other side of the line....

This applicator does the trick although you have to shake hard with the longer grass. I apply a PVA/water mix to about a foot square at a time. The stone wall came from Ten Commandments.

As this is a meadow, I have been more even with the colouring. I need to get some sheep in here. The barn is from Scale Model Scenery, another nice kit to put together.

For this year, I have bitten the bullet and started to tackle semaphore signal building. A breakthrough came with the bottle of flux that you can see in the background. A good dollop of this on the brass and soldering suddenly becomes a lot simpler - you still could do with 2 pairs of hands. Steve from RMWeb recommends a brass tube for the base but I couldn't get the smaller tubes to solder inside the brass tube without one of the others dropping off. So the round base is turned from solid brass. I managed to salvage 3 finials from the Alan Gibson kits and managed to turn a fourth one on the lathe. The bits and pieces came from Model Signal Engineering. You can see a couple of frets in the photo. I need 4 starter/distant semaphores. They will need to be electrically slotted as each arm is operated from a different box.

I also need a gantry for the station throat arrivals. As the up (departure line) is used for shunting, I'm going to need 4 dolls. The Pratt Truss gantry kit comes from Alan Gibson Workshop. The holes for the dolls are a bit big so I turned some bases from brass rod.

Now we get to the hard part. It has to work for its living. The right hand arm has had the operating wire fitted.

I've fitted 3 of the 4 bell cranks for the initial run. On the left hand arm, only one bell crank is required (although I did solder 2 together). As we move away from the left hand doll, I need 2 bell cranks so that the horizontal run is displaced from other horizontal runs - if that makes sense!

A quick diversion as we have a busy day at the junction. I need to get some street lamps on the road.
