Highslide JS February 2020

The signal box came from lcut.co.uk with Scalescenes slates. A tedious job but worth it. A drop of water has caused a green tinge on the slates which will need painting out. I'm not sure if its a bit small.

I felt that I needed a scenic break over the station throat along the lines of the bridge that used to span the throat of Bradford Exchange. I had to do a lot of internet research and a lot of possibilities weren't going to fit my trackplan. I got in touch with In the Greenwood and they agreed to make a custom built bridge to the size I needed. Here's how the bits come. The bottom piece has had the glue applied and the piece above is about to be positioned. You can see weights applied to a previous piece at the top.

This is one of the central sections.

A trial to see if it fits.

The finished article. I added some plastic I beams under the structure as I felt that would be more realistic. I've also added plastic card embossed rivet sheet at the top and top sides to give a bit more effect.

Another view.

Returning to the 6 doll junction signal, the distants on the posts are are controlled by the box in advance so they need to be "slotted" with the stop arms so that the distants can only be cleared when the stop arms are clear. I found a wonderful bit of open source software called Fritzing which allows you to design stripboard circuits. It has a mind of its own at times but generally works well. The circuit board is in the centre. A test input board is on the left representing the input switches and a LED test board is on the right representing the signals. Here I can check that everything works.

Steve has supplied 3 servo controllers from GF controls. These have been mounted on board together with the driver board. Time for another test session with some spare servos.

The board is installed under the railway on a hinged board so that it folds away once commissioned.

The end result is superb. As you can see, I didn't get my dimensions quite right and the stonemasons had to do some adjustments!
